Bug Hunting - 15th November 2021

Spontaneous:

This morning for something different I went and got the large magnifying glasses and the nets. I gave one of each to Hunter, Nyiel, Pilar, Nathan and Nyiel. I showed the children how to use the magnifying glasses by looking through them. Nyiel, Pilar and Nathan they looked through their Magnifying glass, Hunter was more interested in putting it in his mouth and Kavith walked around with it holding on to it. I said to the children " lets go bug hunting" Nyiel, Pilar and Nathan looked and then we walked over to the garden and they started to look in the garden with their magnifying glasses and I asked the children " who can see some ants" the children did not respond.

After they were finished looking in the garden Nyiel walked around the yard and collected things in her net.. I showed Nathan and Pilar the leaves through the magnifying glass. They both had a look and they both walked around the yard looking through the magnifying glasses.

After a short while I asked Nyiel what she had collected in her net she just looked at me. I had a look and there were some leaves in the net. I asked the rest if the children if they can collect leaves in their nets but they were more interested in doing their own thing. After the children had finished playing with them I collected them and put them away.

Interpretation

Critical reflection. As the educator I was able to offer an experience which was a no fail experience and a hands on experience. I was able to scaffold their learning by showing them how to use the magnifying glass. I was able to talk about what the children were looking at through the magnifying glass. The children were using non verbal language to communicate with me. Follow up. Nature craft
