Christmas dancing - 12th December 2021

Spontaneous:

This morning due to the rain the children come back indoors for play. I thought it would be a great idea to put on Christmas music for the children to do a music and movement group time. I gathered the children over to the mat and put the music on and turned the computer screen around so they could enjoy watching the Christmas songs while dancing. Elya was very excited to come participate in the dancing, I supported Elya by helping her dance. Elya looked up at me and gave a big cheeky smile and than began dancing by herself. Hunter come over to see the music and also enjoyed dancing to the Christmas songs such as "Wish you a Merry Christmas", "Jingle bells" and "Rudolph the red nose reindeer". A few more children come over to join in and were showing off their dance moves and clapping their hands to the music. Pilar come over and was a little shy at first so I asked her if she would to dance with a Christmas teddy and she nodded. Pilar loved dancing with the teddy and giving the teddy lots of hugs. Huda also wanted to have a teddy to dance with and hug. Huda than did a great job sharing and passed the teddy to Jenayah for a turn. Huda than sat on the mat and clapped her hands along to the music. Jenayah was so excited to have the teddy and enjoyed dancing along to the music as well. The children continued to dance along and sing to the music with their educators until it was time to get ready for lunch.

"We provide a supportive, fun and stimulating environment". The children were enjoying a fun, stimulating and meaningful group time.

Interpretation

Critical reflection: I supported the children's interest of Christmas by providing a meaningful learning experince/group time for them to particpate in if they wished to. I encoruaged the children to come and go as they please and supported the children who were a little hesitant at first. I was building attachments with the children through interactions. Other educators also come over to particpate in this fun and stimulating group time by danicng along with the children. Follow up: Singing to Christmas Carols.
