Gardening activities - 24th April 2023

Planned activity: This month the Joeys room project is gardening. The Joeys room children actively participate in various gardening activities like planting seeds, watering the garden and taking care of the plants. The children also get a chance to see the seeds grow everyday. On 20.4.23 the children planted various seeds like garlic, strawberry, red onion and red capsicums. Today I brought the pots outdoor for the children to have a look and water them. When I brought the pots out children were excited and surrounded me. Elya, Nathan, Hunter, Mila, Tilly, Dylan and Autumn were happy to use spray bottle to water the seeds. Ayaan, Shalini and Jayla needed help to use the spray bottle. The children also noticed garlic and red onion started to grow. After watering the seeds the children played for a while. Around 11:00 am Massa with another educator took the older children to water the plants in the front garden. Hunter, Aladeng and Nathan liked watering the plants. Dylan and Elya liked playing with wheel barrows. Autumn, Mila and Tilly liked exploring the garden. The children had a great morning involving themselves in various gardening activities.

Theorists

The learning experience can be linked to Piaget's theories. He believes the child is an active learner and that the child must be given opportunitis to explore, discover and experiment. these principles underpin all cognitive development.

Interpretation

Critical Reflection: I helped children in observing the seeds growing and I also helped them to water them using the spray bottle. The educators in the Joeys room are organizing different gardening activities each day. Follow up: More gardening activities.
