Incy Wincy Spider - 19th November 2021
This morning, all the children were called over and sat in a circle ready for our group project activity about Incy Wincy spider. Firstly, I asked each child to try and identify either the sun, rain, spider or the pipe in which they all successfully did. Hunter, Elya, Aarvi and Marlee loved the sun whilst Lucas and Pilar enjoyed the rain cloud. Mun was able to count the spiders saying there was "4 spiders". Jenayah noticed the spider quickly recognising that there is danger about this insect so she said "go away!". After all the children had identified a particular picture or something they liked we began to sing the Incy Wincy Spider song twice hearing all of their voices or seeing their hand movements. They all sang along with us and were pleased and happy with themselves and this activity due to us all clapping at the end. Once the activity was over we all said "bye bye spider" and continued on playing and singing other songs. Overall, they were all extremely engaged and everyone happily participated in this activity. Link to Pedagogical Documentation EYLF Outcomes Outcomes: 4: Children are confident and involved learners Elements: 4.3 Children transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another. Children engaged in actions and songs while singing along to Incy Wincy spider collectively as a group. They were able to identify the different elements on the visual created, for example, the difference between the sun, rain, spider or pipe. Theorists Through musical game play children were able to enchance their turn taking, cooperation and social skills. This learning experience can be linked to the Gardner's theories. He saw the arts and creativity as playing major roles in children's learning children are able to explore many cognitive concepts through their play and creative explorations. Interpretation
Critical Reflection: I had established the idea that all our Joeys had a particular interest in insects, more specifically, spiders. We had thought up the idea to create a visual concept about the popular childrens song, Incy Wincy Spider. After looking at some pictures online I found and printed out a cartoon sun, rain cloud and a few spiders due to the lyrics of the song. Then, instead of printing out a pipe I got out two pieces of paper and rolled them up sticking them together to form a 'pipe' sticking the spiders to it. We got out or felt board and pinned in the pictures and pipe as seen in the picture. Next time as an activity we could create the same concept but about a different song as they enjoyed the visual due to the fact they were able to pick their favourite picture and became happy when they recivied praise as well as seeing the connection between the picture and song we sang.
Follow up: Visual concept board for Baa Baa Black Sheep, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or possibly going on a further exploration into other insects.
