Indoor Play - 8th March 2021

Spontaneous: This morning the children were playing indoor and exploring the indoor area. The children had free play and explored their own ideas. Emilia liked to do some drawings. I offered her some papers and colour pencils. I sat next to her and Emilia asked me to draw her mummy and daddy. I did the same. when I was drawing for her, Emilia offered me instructions and I followed her instructions. Once I finished, she started to modify the drawing according to her ideas. She also gave me explanation about her drawing like Mummy and daddy holding hands. While Emilia and I were exploring at the drawing table, jack came over and tried to take Emilia's picture. So I invited Jack to the table and made him sit comfortable on a chair. Then I offered jack a paper and pencil. Jack started to draw on the paper with excitement. He often looked up and smiled at me and then again start to draw. Hunter was busy on the mat playing with baby toys. He sometimes looked at the mirror and laughed at his image. Lorenzo was happy to explore the indoor with excitement, he started to walk and stand without any support. He explored the indoor environment on his own pace. The children had great morning implementing their own ideas and creativity in their play.

Theorists

This learning experience can be linked to Steiner's theories. He believes that children need free, creative play to develop their spirit, bodies and minds.

Interpretation

Critical Reflection: I observed children having free play following their own interest. I had one on one conversation with Emilia. I helped babies like Hunter, Lorenzo and Jack to explore thier environment and have some fun time. The children had quiet time on their own before other children came and joined them. It gave me time to observe and spent time with each time individually. It gave me ideas to set resources in the room based on children's interest. Follow Up: Room set up based on children's interest.
