Koala Corner Diwali Celebration - 24th October 2022
Planned: These past days Koala Corner has been celebrating and learning about 'Diwali'. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Supporting and teaching diversity in early childhood programs is a two-pronged process: helping children to feel good about themselves, their families, and their communities, and also exposing children to differences, things that are unfamiliar, and experiences beyond their immediate lives. Helping us learn more about her culture, Kavitha brought in a sweets and sarongs. Most children were eager to try the sweets offered some enjoying it so much they asked for seconds. We also put on a bindi dot which signifies a status in the Indian society alopng with henna on the hands. The sarong was popular amongst the girls and they enjoyed stepping into a different role as bollywood dancers. The bollywood music was very much the most enjoyed part of the experience with both Educators and children dancing away. There were also diwali arts and crafts offered where children made lanterns and and diya (oil lamp).

Theorists
This learning experience can be linked to Vygotsky's theories. He believes that children in different cultures, learn ways of thinking that are necessary to live in their own culture and community. Children in different cultures learn different cognitive abiliities and strengths to be an active participant within their communities.
Interpretation
Critical Reflection: As Educators we were able to promote and encourage a positive outlook of diversity as we eagerly share our culture with staff, children and families. We are able to support families in celebrating their cultures which provides a sense of belonging and connection with our community. Educators were able to provide inviting, exciting experiences that extend children skills and learning. Follow Up: Video on how India celebrates Diwali
